Arcade Wallpapers

Looking to infuse your desktop with some classic gaming goodness, down to the simulated scanlines? We might have just what you’re looking for. Below you’ll find previews for 1920×1080 widescreen resolution wallpapers that depict gameplay from classic arcade games. Click the thumbnails below to bring a larger image up on your screen. While these wallpapers are designed exclusively for a 1920×1080 screen, you may find them acceptable to scale to your screen size, although you’ll lose some of the details in the process. As artistic depictions of gameplay with scanlines, many of these images do not reflect any exact scene from the games they are about, and they are all quite busy–I make no guarantees that any of them will work effectively with your desktop layout.

Although the preview may not show the image at its full size, you can right-click and save the image, and it should be the proper 1920×1080 size after doing so. Please do not repost these wallpapers to any other website. Thank you.

  1. Stumbled onto your page today via a quick Google Image search for some Final Fight wallpaper after a RANDOM (only can happen at a government desk job) style train of thought. Anyways, long story short – hit yours, and my mind was blown. This site rules, man. Some killer work all around.

    • Thanks much for the kind words. It’s always nice to hear that someone actually likes or might be able to use what I’ve put together, and the ability to (at least momentarily) liven up some time on the job is a bonus.

  2. Wow. I stumbled upon these while looking up 1080p wallpapers for metal slug. I bookmarked this page, and hope to see more coming up.

By any chance do you take requests?

    • Nobody’s actually made any requests, so it’s not an issue that’s come up yet. I’m not opposed to suggestions or requests, but there are a few things to keep in mind regarding wallpapers:
      – Right now, I am only doing arcade games (I’ll get to consoles later, but since my current Tumblr focus is on arcades, that’s what these are all for)
      – For the most part, fighting games are out because of the large number of characters–these wallpapers take time and one of them just can’t capture the whole feel of the game
      – The game should have appropriate graphical “dimensions” for a wallpaper. For instance, Pac-Man wouldn’t work because it’s a static, vertical game whose resolution is too small. Many older games or vertically oriented games have this problem. With some games (like 1943) I can work with the tilemap to spread it out wider than you would ever see in the game, but that’s on a case-by-case.
      – If I accept a request, it may still be weeks before the wallpaper comes out (each one can take hours to put together.)

      • Here are a few then:
Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon (Banpresto, beat-em-up),
Knights of The Round (Capcom, beat-em-up),
        Battletoads (Electronic Arts, beat-em-up),
        Sunset Riders (Konami, shoot-em-up platformer),
        Simpsons (Konami, beat-em-up),
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Konami, beat-em-up),
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Turtles in Time (Konami, beat-em-up).

I’d also suggest Rage of the Dragons and Garou Mark of the Wolves, but they’re SNK fighting games.

Also, are there alternative wallpapers for the samurai spirits one that say samurai shodown, by any chance?

        • I’d say several of these are inevitable additions. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Knights of the Round and Sunset Riders are among some of my favorite arcade games. The Simpsons is also a decent fit. Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon is a bit trickier; I’m a big fan of the series (as you can tell from the Quiz BSSM wallpapers) and couldn’t possibly make a wallpaper without all five of the senshi in it, which might wind up quite crowded, but I like the thought of it. Battletoads is my least favorite of the bunch–I found most of the graphics of the game unimpressive, but your suggestion is definitely noted. And yes, the SNK fighting games are probably out. I only did Marvel vs. Capcom and Samurai Shodown because of my fondness for those.
Speaking of Samurai Shodown, for the sake of storage space and confusion, I only have one version up, but I’ll check online soon and see if I can find an easy copy of the Shodown logo to throw together an alternate version of that wallpaper.

  3. can you add another version of each image without the logo names?

    • While this could be done, I’d rather not. It would require saving another copy of all the wallpapers, uploading them and modifying every entry on the site to display them or at least a link to them. Moreover, some of the wallpapers here have already been taken and used for other purposes (including for-profit articles) and raw pictures of the gameplay without logos would make that even easier.

  4. Awesome site, i found this looking for some magician lord wallpapers in google, such awesome games you featured here friend. Greetings.
